German Red Cross and WMP continue Cooperation on School Sanitation

Created on 15 November 2012 Print Email

redcrossThe German Red Cross in cooperation with their local chapters have recently finalised a number of school latrines including  decentralised wastewater treatment facilities (ABR = anaerobic baffled reactors). Experts from the WMP have been called in to check on the quality of the construction works and performance of the plants. Valuable experiences have been gained for future school sanitation projects, and how to improve the contractors’ work quality.

The ABRs are supposed to reduce pollution to the groundwater and nearby rice fields. The German Red Cross is considering to make ABRs obligate for future school sanitation projects.
