Chief Technical Advisor Erik Schweikhardt accepted the award on behalf of his team on 31 January 2013. The honorary certificate is awarded annually to groups and individuals in recognition of their contribution to Da Nang’s socio-economic development.

Core areas include advisory services on the implementation of the city’s environmental plan, the integration of environmental and climate-related aspects in the master planning process and the built-up of an environmental monitoring system. Additionally, the project focuses on implementing case studies for environmental-friendly urban development; for example in the area of organic domestic waste and its potential re-use. The central Vietnamese city of Da Nang has a current population of approximately one million people and aims to become Viet Nam’s first ‘Environmental City’ by 2020.

The Russian General Consulate, the Vietnamese Disabled Association, the corporation ‘Ba Na Cable Car’ and representatives of the Japanese Development Organisation JICA in Viet Nam have received the certificate of merit together with GIZ.
