Experiences Sharing Workshop between Vietnam and German Water Associations

VWSA WorkshopOn 19 February, 2014, Vietnam Water Supply and Sewerage Association (VWSA), in collaboration with German Water Partnership (GWP) organized the Experiences Sharing Workshop between Water Associations in Ho Chi Minh City. Leaders of VWSA and GWP, VWSA Executive members and institutional members, representatives from the GIZ Wastewater Management Programme and GIZ Technical and Vocational Education and Training System Programmes took part in this event.

Mr. Nguyen Quang Hung, VWSA Vice Chairman, General Secretary presented about the establishment, development, functions & responsibilities, scope of work, achievements and development direction of VWSA. Mr. Friedrich Barth, Managing Director of GWP shared the experiences in organizational and member structure (14,000 members including 6,000 individual ones), operations and regular activities of GWP. Annually, GWP conducts about 200 conferences/training courses, develops norms and standards for water and wastewater sector. According to him, in the coming time, VWSA should focus more in development of its membership base for further highly needed capacity development of Vietnamese water and wastewater service providers.

Mr. Christian Henschel, Technical Advisor, of the GIZ Wastewater Management Programme shared the achievements gained and outlook of the next phase of the Programme. Starting in 2015, the programme phase 4 will focus on three key thematic components – policy framework, competence development and knowledge management. VWSA will be an active member in the two latter ones.

Mr. Cao Lai Quang, Vice Minister of Construction and Chairman of VWSA, expressed his appreciation to the Vietnam-German cooperation in the water and wastewater sector, especially in the improvement of institutional and policy framework. He also added that German experiences were very useful for the VWSA strategy development as well as the development of human resources in the field of water and wastewater, that would contribute to the growth of the water sector in Vietnam.
