On March 21, 2012, representatives from Dai Viet Consultancy and Construction Investment Company, the Wastewater Division of Vinh Urban Infrastructure Investment and Development JSC (InfraVi) and  Bac Ninh Water Supply and Sewerage Company were invited by WMP for a visit to the decentralized wastewater treatment plant in Viem Xa Village and a subsequent question-and-answer session.

Mr. Boris Bisa, GIZ Institutional Advisor, and Ms. Duong, WMP Technical Expert, accompanied the on-site visit and answered questions of the participants at the Q&A session, which took place at Bac Ninh Water Supply and Sewerage Company.

Objective of this fieldtrip was to share practical experiences among stakeholders for a possible extension of decentralized wastewater treatment in Vinh. Among others, the following issues were of high interest during the discussion:

  • House connections
  • Manhole covers, embedding, design of influent and effluent pipes
  • Pumping stations
  • Construction problems
  • Implementation of wastewater fees
  • Collection and disposal of sludge
  • Public awareness on decentralized wastewater management

As part of the WMP knowledge sharing policy, this field trip was one step towards a close cooperation between the wastewater companies of Bac Ninh and Nghe An provinces. Such exchange through wastewater company knowledge exchange networks is a measure to disseminate best-practices and experiences in modern wastewater management throughout Vietnam. WMP will continue to support those networks.
